Do coaches and therapists still need a website in 2026?
Social media, directories, AI search… is a website still worth it for a small practice? Here's my honest answer.

It’s one of the first questions I’m asked: “I’ve got Instagram and I’m listed on a directory. Do I really need a website?”
My honest answer is yes, but probably not the kind of website you’re imagining.
You don’t own your social media
Algorithms change, accounts get locked and platforms fade. Your website is the one place online that’s truly yours, and where every visitor sees you at your best without distractions.
People check before they book
Even when a referral comes by word of mouth, most people will look you up before they reach out. A calm, professional website reassures them that you’re established, qualified and approachable.
AI search is reading your website
More and more people ask ChatGPT, Claude or Google’s AI to “find a hypnotherapist near me for anxiety.” Those tools draw on websites. A clear, well-structured site gives them something to recommend.
What a website actually needs to do
It doesn’t need to be big. For most practitioners it needs to:
- Make it clear who you help and how
- Help people feel they know you a little
- Make booking or getting in touch effortless
That’s it. Everything else is a bonus.
